FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 19, 2024
Deerfield Beach, FL: Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI) is pleased to announce that the latest Lotus Recognition™ has been awarded to the Healing Environment Council at Greenwich Hospital, a 206-bed regional medical center serving Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. The hospital is a major academic affiliate of Yale School of Medicine, a member of Yale New Haven Health and prestigious Magnet Hospital.
The Blessing of the Hands initiative of the Nursing Professional Governance Healing Environment Council, demonstrates how Watson’s Human Caring is reflected in their daily work. It was first offered during Nurses Week 2016 as an interdisciplinary venture with Nursing and Spiritual Care. Essential oils are placed in the hands of those who choose to receive and a spoken blessing honors staff as a gesture of gratitude for all they do. In 2018, with permission, Dr. Jean Watson’s Caritas Processes were incorporated into the ceremony. The ceremony is held in nature, beginning with a centering meditation with the Tibetan singing bowl inviting all into presence.
“It is a profound honor for us at Greenwich Hospital to receive the Lotus Recognition from Watson Caring Science Institute. It signifies not only our commitment to excellence but also the embodiment of Watson Caring Science principles in our nursing operations. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who guided and partnered with us on this journey," said Priscilla Bagatelle, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Director Nursing Operations, Greenwich Hospital.
“Greenwich Hospital's Lotus Recognition is a testament to their unwavering dedication to compassionate self- and patient-centered care. It brings me great joy to see organizations like Greenwich Hospital embrace and embody the principles of Caring Science, “ said Dr. Jean Watson, Founder/Director of WCSI.
